Taika Waititi Has Been Approached To Direct A New Star Wars Movie
(Deadline) "Disney we hear is looking to keep the three-time Oscar nominated filmmaker and helmer of Thor Ragnarok in the family. We’ve confirmed that the two-time Oscar nominee of Disney sister Searchlight’s Jojo Rabbit has been approached about a Star Wars movie, however, it’s not clear yet if it’s a feature for Disney+ or the big screen. Taika Waititi directed the final episode of season 1’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian. He also voiced the bounty hunter IG-11 for the Disney+ streaming series."
Oh my yes. I pretty openly did NOT like 'The Rise of Skywalker', but that does not mean that my fever for Star Wars content had diminished at all. Especially where there is incredible stuff like 'The Mandalorian' being made where the insanely expansive universe of Star Wars is actually being explored. Waititi is obviously well versed in the Mandalorian, having directed the finale as well as voicing IG-11. He is also, in my opinion, still batting one hundred as a director. I can't think of a single person I'd rather have at the helm of a new motion picture other than maybe Filoni or Jon Favreau themselves.
The one question I have is what sort of movie this is going to be. A standalone like Rogue One or Solo? Part of a trilogy? Or maybe a straight to Disney+ sort of thing. I'm game for anything they can attach him to.
